A word on Edelweiss customers- they are the BEST! We have enjoyed relationships with many gardeners and homeowners over the years and they trust us to answer questions and advise them honestly sprinkled with joy and a deep appreciation of what nature offers.

Over the years, the owners hire a relatively small staff to help in the nursery but are now 'doing it all' Josef is a horticulturist and has followed his passion to establish this renowned business. If you were to ask him about profit margin or quarterly reports, he would give you a blank stare but, ask him to describe a special conifer or how to plant a rhododendron and he is your man! Luckily, Debbie has the ability to do the books as well as contribute to the artistic aspect of the home and business. The business has been profitable enough for the Braeus' to live comfortably and enjoy a quality of life beyond their dreams- the new owners may approach marketing, sales, inventory in a different manner to meet their comfort level knowing that the Edelweiss name is well respected!

The business and home are sold together. It is the owners' desire for Edelweiss Nursery to continue; the service aspect of landscaping is an option. The owners, Josef and Debbie Braeu, are willing to work for a limited time as consultants to ensure the smooth transition to new owners and will sign a non-compete agreement if requested. The home, outbuildings, land, nursery, tools, and nursery stock are to be sold together but the owners are willing to discuss options on large equipment, trucks, some home furnishings with the prospective buyers.

The nursery is quite extensive but can be modified by the new owner to enlarge or downsize. The setting is on a quiet road ten minutes from Duluth, MN. surrounded by woods and flanked by good neighbors. There is ample parking and larger space in the rear for employee parking and hardscape storage. When a customer arrives, they are drawn to a well established perennial garden near the parking and a lovely collection of trees, shrubs, statuary, and benches in a park like setting. The nursery is well organized. There is an area with benches of perennials and water plants surrounded by trees beside an Oriental Garden and path leading to the natural pond. The shrubs are set on a flat section and the shade trees are secured on rails on a slight rise with drip irrigation in place. There is a growing range for shade trees and conifers. The nursery is a gem offering a vast selection of perennials, native plants, Rhododendrons, Magnolias, Oriental maples, a collection of dwarf conifers, unusual (and 'usual') shade trees, conifers, shrubs. There is a large greenhouse, and a new large pole barn. Recently, a coffee bar offering a special Edelweiss blend coffee and treats and a gift shop housed in an old wooden shed- have been added. The gift shop named 'Something Unexpected' opened in 2006 and has been very popular- with gardening items as well as intriguing consignments brought in weekly by many vendors.

There are many special 'extras' of the Edelweiss tradition. A Bonsai study club that meets monthly and presents a workshop every spring, a potting shed for customers and nursery use, opportunity for speakers, classes, and outreach speaking and demonstrating with area clubs and organizations.
